The 990-EZ is a reporting document sent to the IRS to notify them and the general public of your activities for your tax-exempt organization. It is longer than the 990-N but shorter than the full form 990. The 990-EZ is considered the middle form of the 990 series and is for tax-exempt organizations with gross receipts of less than $200,000 or total assets of less than $500,000. The 990-EZ can require up to 8 schedules to be filled out. Schedules are a vital part of the 990-EZ as they allow you to go into further detail on specific topics about your organization, such as highly compensated employees and program service revenue. Schedules must also be made available to the public, so be sure you don't include any personal information such as the social security numbers of your officers. The form 990-EZ must be filled out by the 15th day of the fifth month after your organization's accounting period ends. For calendar year filers, the deadline is May 15th. If your organization is no longer operating, the return must be filed by the 15th day of the fifth month after the day your organization was liquidated, dissolved, or terminated. Form 990-EZ requires quite a bit of information on your organization and its activities.
